The village of Winster in the Peak District of Derbyshire owes is existence to lead mining. The picturesque stone houses and cottages, many of which date from the 17th century, were the homes of the miners and merchants.Their styles reflect the changing fortunes of the industry over the centuries.
The last mine closed in the early 20th century, but Winster remains a lively place and continues its ancient traditions with an annual Wakes Week and Morris Dancing Team.
Visit the Winster Village website for a diary of events and much more about village life.
